Hunh? You weren’t elder-bashing. You did call some people on their “kids don’t know shit” attitudes — but you also said there was some TNG discussion about the ageism of TNG events.
I appreciated your feedback on the presenters — and your offer to help program reps from Bay area organizations in contacting them. I know I was rather excited (and envious) of your class line-up, so that offer was genuine gold, in my eyes.
Oh, well. Fuck ’em if they can’t take a joke. Ya done good.
The problem seems to be that by saying out loud that the group is ageist is what is terrible. Not that the group *is* ageist. Any group that discriminates is “ist”. It just is. I don’t understand trying to deny this. The fact that I am more comfortable when discrimination is acknowledged is beyond the pale.
Oh! I should go through the presenter list with you and give specific feedback. All of the presenters were at least decent-to-good. A couple were absolutely knock-my-fucking-socks-off good. I tried not to express the depth of my shock in the original post. 🙂
Speaking as someone who is removed from the scene- it seemed perfectly respectful, and unless there’s some history-loaded references they’re way out of line.
